California November 2026 Propositions

There are 14 state-wide propositions this time, plus ten for San Francisco, two for Oakland, seven for Berkeley, and one regional measure.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3^rd. You can also vote before then at Early Voting locations. Check your ballot package, or ask your county's Registrar of Voters to find out where. For instance, in Alameda County you can vote at the Registrar's office in downtown Oakland, among other places.

Every California voter now gets a ballot in the mail. You can mail it back, return it by hand to a drop box or voting location, or ignore it and vote in person. However if you do decide to vote in person, it's important to bring your mail ballot along. The poll worker will invalidate it and give you a new one. If you forget to bring your mail ballot, you will be given a provisional ballot which may or may not be counted.

Note that because of Trump's attempts to block voting by mail (even though he uses it himself), if you plan to mail your completed ballot you must send it early. At least a week before election day. Better yet, don't mail it, put it in a drop box.

You can track the progress of your ballot using the free service ballottrax. It will notify you by email or phone when your ballot has been received. This is safe and does not compromise your privacy.

1: Authorizes Bonds for Housing Affordability Programs: xxx

2: Increases State's Rainy Day Fund: xxx

3: Provides Permanent Funding for Schools and Health Care by Extending Existing Tax on High Incomes: xxx

4: Repeals Prohibition Against Public Funding of Election Campaigns: xxx

5: Changes Recall Election Process for Statewide Officers: This would change recall elections so that the chaos-inducing replacement part happens later, if at all. Note, I have long contended that the replacement part in a California Governor recall is unconstitutional and that the Lt. Governor should automatically become governor upon a successful recall. This measure would not fix this; I'm for it anyway.

37: Creates Loan Program for Middle-Income Buyers of Qualified New Homes: xxx

38: Authorizes Bonds for Immunology Medical Research: xxx

39: Prohibits Citizens from Voting Unless They Present Government-Issued Identification: This is Republican voter-suppression nonsense. Fraudulent voting is a tiny tiny problem, and nearly all cases are Republicans trying to prove it's an issue. The current voting system is secure for both in-person and by-mail. No changes are needed.

40: Imposes One-Time Tax on Certain Taxpayers: xxx

44: Requires Community Health Clinics Spend 90% of Revenue on Program Services: xxx
